Funding an Exchange Account Safely in Ghana Through Peer-to-Peer Trades
Many Ghanaians fund exchange accounts through peer-to-peer trades paid with mobile money. These steps help you avoid fake payment proofs, reversed payments and off-platform scams.
Multiple exchanges | Ghana | GHS | fees, access and account safety
Peer-to-peer marketplaces on major exchanges let users in Ghana buy crypto from other users and pay in cedis, often through mobile money. The exchange holds the seller's crypto in escrow during the trade, which provides protection, but only if both parties follow the platform's process. Most losses happen when someone steps outside that process: releasing crypto on a fake payment screenshot, paying outside the order or moving the conversation to another app. This guide sets out habits that keep peer-to-peer funding safe.
Choosing counterparties carefully
Before opening an order, look at the counterparty's completed trades, completion rate and feedback. Prefer established traders with a long, consistent history. Read the terms they list in the advertisement, including payment methods and time limits. If the terms ask you to contact them on another app or pay in an unusual way, choose a different counterparty. The exchange's help center explains how its peer-to-peer escrow and dispute processes work.
Paying only within the order details
Pay exactly the amount shown in the order, to the account name shown in the order, using the method listed. Make sure the name on the receiving mobile money account matches the counterparty's verified name. Do not add comments mentioning crypto to the payment unless the platform specifically allows it. Mark the order as paid only after the payment has actually been sent, and keep the transaction reference from your mobile money provider.
When you are the seller
If you sell crypto, release it only when the money has arrived in your own account and you have checked it in your mobile money or banking app directly. Screenshots and forwarded messages can be forged. Confirm that the sender's name matches the buyer's verified name. If anything is unclear, do not release; contact support through the order so the escrow remains in place while the issue is reviewed.
Staying inside the platform's chat
Keep all communication in the order's built-in chat, which the platform can review in a dispute. Scammers often try to move conversations to other messaging apps where evidence is harder to show. Never share verification codes, and ignore anyone claiming to be exchange staff who contacts you privately. If a dispute arises, open an appeal from the order page and provide your payment references calmly and completely.
