Withdrawing crypto in Ghana: five checks before you press confirm

Before you withdraw from Binance, OKX, Bybit or Bitget, check the destination, the network, the memo, the fee on screen and any pending security hold. A short routine for users in Ghana.

Withdrawals are the one action on an exchange that is hard to undo. Once tokens leave your account on the wrong network or to the wrong address, getting them back is slow at best and impossible at worst. The good news is that nearly every withdrawal mistake comes from one of five places, and checking them takes less time than making a cup of tea. Work through them in order each time, even when you are in a hurry.

The destination is really yours

Copy the address from the receiving wallet or account itself, not from an old message, a screenshot or a contact who forwarded it. If you are sending to another exchange account, open its deposit screen and copy the address there. Clipboard malware can swap an address after you copy it, so once you paste it on the withdrawal screen, compare the first and last six characters with the original before going further.

The network matches on both ends

The receiving side shows which network the address belongs to. Pick exactly the same network on the withdrawal screen. Similar names are not interchangeable, and a token sent on a network the receiver does not support may never appear. If the receiver does not list the network you were going to use, stop and choose one that both sides support. When in doubt, ask the receiving platform's help centre before sending.

The memo or tag is filled in

Some networks and some receiving accounts need a memo, also called a tag, alongside the address. If the deposit screen on the receiving side shows one, copy it into the memo field. Leaving it out is a common reason for deposits that arrive at the exchange but never reach the right account. If the receiving side shows no memo field, do not invent one.

Fee, holds and a small test

Read the withdrawal fee and the amount that will actually arrive on the confirmation screen; that figure is the live one. Check whether a security hold is active after a recent password or authenticator change, because the withdrawal will wait until it ends. For any new destination, send a small test first and wait until it arrives. Save the transaction ID so you can trace the transfer if anything looks wrong later.

  • Select the same network the receiving side shows for that address.
  • Add the memo or tag whenever the receiving deposit screen shows one.
  • Read the live fee, check for security holds and send a small test first.
